Foot care
Foot care, nail care, and leg care are important aspects of the activities of daily living associated with hygiene. Unless linked to a specific disease/diagnosis (such as diabetes), such care is not usually reimbursable from Medicare or other insurances. Few nursing services carry any insurance coverage.
Heale Wound Care provides a private service based from *** south Vermont for foot, nail, and leg care. The cost per person is between $27 and $70 (see options below). If traveling distance is excessive, there may be an added negotiated cost. The procedures involve a foot / leg assessment and a few questions.
For nail care; The feet are washed or moistened without lengthy soaking (experts no longer recommend this practice). Nail trimming is done along the skin growth line, the nail is filed smooth and corns or callus debrided with a curette. A gentle massage using the clients moisturizer is performed and any client/caregiver education included. Fingernail care can be done if necessary. Nail polish removal or application is generally not done.
For leg care; The feet and legs are washed, dried and moisturized, wound care performed if necessary, dressing options if needed are discussed and a plan of care developed that will address lymphedema, vascular or neuropathic problems. Advice relating to compression therapy, demonstration of massage techniques and stocking application are detailed if appropriate
